Graphics for Star Fighter X2

Aug 2010

During the Game Jam at the 360iDev San Jose 2010, Dan Byers (@coffeedan) worked on and showed a head-to-head tank game for iPad. The game has since been reworked as a space game, and Dan asked me to press the “make look better” button. Below are some samples of the work I did on Star Fighter X2, including a cool time-lapse video of building the spaceship in 3D.

Ship

Here’s the original concept I was provided for the ship, along with the final version.

And some nice high-res renders:

Building the ship in “Fast Motion”

This was made using a sweet script I got from @majicDave that takes a screenshot every ten seconds.

I also made some animated power-up graphics, hand-painted nebulas, and made the Manic Gaming website.

Love the new ship. I’m also looking for a revamp for the graphics of my iPhone game. How can I contact you about the costs involved for such a project?

Thanks Dominique! You can get more info about contract work here: http://weheartgames.com/client/ or just email me: mike at weheartgames dot com

    Let me do some maths:
This video is 1:41 = 101s long, and assuming there are 30fps(minimum for human eye), there are 3030 frames in total. Now as each frame is taken in 10s, so this whole task was done in 30300s = 8 hours and 25 minutes, without break!Man! you’re really have some superhuman capabilities, I can’t sit straight in a 3 hour movie in a theatre!

I can’t remember exactly what FPS I output that at. I don’t think it’s 30 though. Probably 15, since I have a bit over 4 hours logged for that model, according to my time tracker! :) Also, it was not all done in one sitting, that’s the deceptive part of these screen time lapses… you can always stop and resume later.
